Maybe we can all play a game by e-mail one day like Vaipen had suggested. _________________

I never played Civ I, but I think Civ II and III would be the best.
I had Age of Empires II for years but never advanced past the William Wallace learning campaign. I completed the first missions for the Saracens, the Mongols, the French, but never got any further. With the Saracens your trade routes did not last long enough for you to do something credible about protecting them. The French had so many enemies in the second mission that someone was always attacking your base, while the Mongols had the Kara Khitai to contend with - having the big tent to defend made it hard.

The game would need to be turnbased because most of us are scattered around the globe. I pkayed an email based game once with a Swede. His name was Per. He told me it meant rock. _________________ Vaipen |

A few weeks ago, I topped everyone in Tetris. My score of 12580 has not been bettered yet. A few moments ago I further solidified my #3 spot on darts by outing the 501 points in 26 throws. Next gaming priority is move into #2 position on Cone Crazy.

I rediscovered galactic Civilizations in the form of GalCiv II. Addicting game.
I suspect some are cheating with these games anyhow. _________________ Vaipen |

I am playing as the Roman's in Civ 3. I am the most culturally and technologically powerful nation in the game by a clear 100 points. I am starting a military build up because the largest armies are all on the other continent. Two large continents exist - me, the Germans, Greeks and Egyptians on one; the Russians, Americans, Aztecs and Iroquois on the other.
I am on good terms with all, though a couple of cities owned by Germany, Greece and Egypt are thorns in my side. I think I may take out the Egyptian one since it is surrounded by me on two sides, the sea to a third and Germany to the north...

Looks slick. have you see Company of Heroes though? I played the demo. Incredible detail!
Needs a hyper PC though. But even i could play the demo on my old PC. With a Geforce FX 5600. All eye candy settings down, still looks awesome.
RfB seems all very close up. In the screenshots. _________________ Vaipen |

Once a great game, always a great game. |
Most DOS games can be played on modern Windows systems using Dosbox:
http://www.dosbox.com/
If you have a 3.5" floppy drive for the laptop you can load them via Dosbox. If not you can buy a 3.5" floppy drive for like $40 from most Internet computer stores.
Since you own the Civilization I install disks, you can download Civ I from abandonware sites:
http://asmo.jakki.org/files.html
IIRC Civ I is protected by asking questions that you need the manual for in order to answer. If you fail to answer them correctly you lose your armies. _________________ I do not support "The Man". I also do not support your irrational stupidity towards "The Man".

I'm still confused at how a socialist can be such a good Black Jack Player. |
It is all about bluffing and counting cards to develop a really good Black Jack system or Poker system either. Capitalism has nothing to do with it, Socialists make good card players. _________________ I do not support "The Man". I also do not support your irrational stupidity towards "The Man".

What is the best Civ game? And do you 'get' Civ 4? I cannot for the life of me get much better than Dan Quayle!
Perhaps I want too much. I want military superuiority like a good american but also want to be hi tech which is the same thing. Or I focus on that wonder that I don't need and lose the race for one i should get. |
That may be because you didn't win the game. The more of the World you control the higher the score you get. If you retire before winning the game, you get no higher than Dan Quayle. I've reached Julius Caesar before. I took out six of the seven civilizations and owned their cities. Plus I won the UN vote needed for victory. Had I captured all seven civilizations I would have scored even higher.
High tech means nothing if you don't have a good military and navy. Yes build boats as well as soldiers, that will keep the enemy away from your cities if you patrol them with boats. Boats also can attack coastal cities.
The key to Civ 4 is controlling resources, you want copper first to build Axemen, and the iron to build Swordmen, and Horses to build Mounted units. Otherwise you are left with Warriors that are basically cavemen with clubs. Send your military units to protect the copper and iron and horse resources before the other civilizations get there. You want to build a city near them to control them.
Diplomacy is a part of the game as well. Ally up with other Civs that have advanced tech and iron and horses so they don't call war on you, and call war on the Civs that are low tech and don't have iron and horses. Then when you outnumber the other Civs that have high tech and iron and horses, you can outpower them.
Cannons and other siege weapons are good for lowering the defenses of cities, make sure you build some of them as well to soften up defenses before your army goes in to invade the city. _________________ I do not support "The Man". I also do not support your irrational stupidity towards "The Man".
