Kia Ora
A damaging earthquake and tsunami hit the Solomon Islands a couple of weeks ago, killing 39 people and injuring hundreds more. The tsunami destroyed coastal villages and flooded several more. Hundreds are missing.
The earthquake raised parts of the affected area by nearly 3 metres, causing the water to drain from the reefs. Subsequently the tourist industry is suffering from the loss of revenue associated with diving operations. The flooding caused by the tsunami is subsequently taking longer to drain away.
